Hurricane Tanner

So this was 20 minutes of unsupervised Tanner while I helped Afton with her reading for the night.
 HELP!!! :)
You may not be able to tell, but this was Tanner dumping cereal on the floor. He also has definite opinions on what belongs in the trash and what belongs on my floor. The trash can often loses.

Afton's 1st Day of Kindergarten

Afton had her first day of Kindergarten and loved it. She loves going and loves her teacher! Yay!!

Summer Fun

I can't believe summer is gone, school has started. Some of the fun things we did this summer...

  • Scoresby Family Reunion. We were able to spend 4 days in Nauvoo for a family reunion. It was awesome. Afton and Tanner had a blast playing with their cousins! Tanner enjoyed roaring at everyone since watching Monsters Inc. on the drive up.   We were able to go the temple, which was awesome! We also saw some of the church sites and just had a great time with family.

  •  BYU football game.  BYU didn't play so hot, and despite the 2 hour delay and 2 horrible downpours, it was a fun time! Highlights included spending time with the Cramers, playing in the rain, and the awesome chocolate peanut butter shake afterwards. And, Joe and I didn't even get into a fight afterwards. Mostly, because I didn't try to cheer him up since I fell asleep on the way home.  :)

  • Joe has been kayaking numerous times and has plenty of scrapes and injuries to show for it. None of the injuries were serious, but gross looking. And we didn't have to amputate anything.... you never know what infections you'll get with the Potomac.
  •  Over Labor Day, we went to Harper's Ferry and had a blast. Joe went kayaking earlier, and we met up and just walked around, ate some really good frozen custard, and played in the river. The pics of the kids in the car are coming home from Harper's Ferry.

  • Swimming. Afton did the swim team again this year and loved it. She won her first heat ribbon at divisionals this year and was so excited.Swimming seriously took up most of our summer. Afton went to practice pretty much every morning Monday thru Friday, 3 evenings a week, plus 2 weeks of stroke clinic, and meets on Saturday. Swimming really does suck the soul out of you. :)

Conversation with Afton

So we are driving to swim practice, and our conversation goes like this.

Afton: Mom, when I'm 65, how old will you be?
Me: Well, Afton, when your 65, I'll be dead. (or hopefully)
Afton: (bursts into tears) I don't want you to die! You're the best mom ever!

And then my heart melted. Its moments like these that really get to me and make everything worth it.

It took me a couple of minutes to calm her down and then we then started talking about what being an eternal family meant and blessings of the temple. I don't know why but it seems that most of our gospel conversations start when we are driving somewhere and I only have a few minutes to teach. But you take what you can get, right?

I feel really blessed and lucky to have such a wonderful family. I am thankful for the temple. It is the one place where I can go and be closest to Logan, and for that I will always be grateful.

Oops.

Looks like we haven't posted since Christmas.  Wow, I'm getting really bad at this.

Okay, new goal.  Post at least once per month.

What can I talk about this month?

Well, I am in Johannesburg right now.  Too bad my clothes aren't.
Pictures are here on Facebook.

I'm working on getting a special project for the company up and running.  The problem is that we have to liase with two different division of the parent company to do my part of this, then a third division when I'm done, and we do things very, very differently than they do.  On the other hand, we appear to be much more organized than they are.  I'm ready to scream my head off at the 'project manager' here in Johannesburg.
