I void warranties

Last night I finally got my iPod working. The hard drive that I ordered on the advice of most of the voters ... didn't work at all. So, I bought a Compact Flash adapter and a CF card. Once I plugged that in, it worked right away.
I am now the proud owner of one of the very few 2GB 4th generation iPods.
On the plus side, I can get a larger capacity card, and my ipod has no hard drive, both eliminating the possibility of the hard drive dying again, and extending the battery life.

I haven't Rockboxed it yet, because of the lack of space. I actually have it full right now. Once I upgrade to a larger card I'll install RockBox, and my creation will be complete.... muahahahaha.

What do I know?

So, I just found out that several of our friends were interviewed for the Macneil-Lehrer News Hour. They were discussing how they were able to buy houses while they couldn't before. I called Tracy and asked her if she knew about this, she said "Oh, yeah. I was going to go over there, but Afton was sleeping."

What the heck? I found out about this because someone I know just happened to flip to NPR while the segment was airing. Hmph. Apparently, my wife and I don't run in the same circles, even if if we know the same people.

If you want to hear our friends talk, here's the link: Link

Wal Mart Jeans-not so hot

Ok, I was just kidding about Wal Mart jeans. After one wash, they pretty much shrink to high-water levels. Oh, well life's tough. I can always make them into shorts. I still have high hopes for finding cheap long jeans. :)

This

This is what happens when Tracy hangs out with the other moms at church: they dress our daughters to match and make them rose for pictures even though all we have is a camera phone.

Afton Shots

Afton-a baby of many talents!

So Afton took her first steps about two weeks ago. It was awesome. Her eyes were huge and she had this huge grin on her face. I think she surprised herself and wasn't really expecting to walk by herself because she hasn't really tried to walk on her own since. I think she even might have scared herself when she was walking. It was pretty funny. We didn't get a good shot on camera. Oh well, I am sure there will be other chances.

Cooking

Recently, our house has experienced a sudden burst of culinary creativity. This is entirely a positive thing, although our food bill has gone up, some too. I was trying to figure out why this phenomenon has occured, when I realized: Afton is the answer!

Since she's almost 1 year old, we've mostly got her off of baby food. This is fine, except that it means we need to feed her real food, (not ramen!). Thus, I find myself cooking dinner while Tracy's at work, instead of feeding Afton a jar of baby food and microwaving a bag of popcorn for myself. Being myself, I am inclined to experiment (I always spell it expirement and have to correct myself. I don't know why!) with the food, to attempt to obtain maximum flavor.

I present to you, a compilation of recent meal menus:

Sunday dinner: Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans.
Earlier this week: Meatloaf, peas with mushrooms.
Sometime last week: Mashed potatoes, grean beans.

Tonight's dinner is going to be pork chops that I brined, according a recipe from the Food Network's website, cooked in the Scoresby family rice and porkchops tradition. Yummy.

Resolutions

So, you may have noticed that I haven't posted any resolutions this year. Perhaps, that's because all of my recent expressed resolutions (or goals) have failed miserably. This is not looking good for me. Let's use this blog to find previous expressed goals:
so, by the end of this year, I want to lead climb. By the end of next year, I want to do a true multi-pitch route. Well, we'll see how it goes.
  • I said this in May 2007. It is now February 2009. What we have here is the first climbing goal I expressed on this blog. Last year I led a 5.7 sport route. I have not, as of yet, led any trad routes, or climbed beyond the first pitch of any multi-pitch routes. (I have hopes for this summer.)
I want to see if I can pull this off. I want at least one hit from every state in the USA to hit my blog in one month.
  • June 2008. I was in a posting frenzy, including a lot of mobile blogging. I even promised muchos pictures of Afton, but I still just got 35 states that month. Ouch.

I've also expressed several goals verbally, only to have them fail miserably on me. Goals I've written down in my little pocket notebook have failed. Some have even failed pre-emptively. This bodes poorly for my major "Life List" goals.

Perhaps I'm just depressed as I write this, or perhaps I need to re-evaluate my priorities as expressed in my goals. I'm not sure. I do know that now, I resolve to not set any goals, in order to prevent future failure.
